WASHINGTON, DC — The United States Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs has recognized Armenian Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan as the 2024 Anti-Corruption Champion for her efforts to establish asset forfeiture as a crucial tool in the fight against corruption.
“Corruption erodes democratic governance, undermines trust in government, and hinders development. This is why the Department of State promotes integrity, transparency, and accountability as foreign policy priorities and core national security interests. Since the UN Convention Against Corruption’s (UNCAC) adoption and U.S. ratification, the United States has been a leader in implementing international anti-corruption commitments,” the State Department said in a statement.
The United States launched the Anti-Corruption Champions Award in 2021 to recognize individuals who have taken remarkable steps to combat corruption and to demonstrate U.S. solidarity with these heroic partners.
Before her appointment as Minister of Justice, Galyan served as Deputy Prosecutor-General from 2020 to 2024, where she coordinated the stolen asset recovery division.
In a press release, the Ministry of Justice stated that the award was presented to Galyan by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Galyan is the first person from Armenia to receive this recognition.
