YEREVAN — Popular Armenian actress Varduhi Varderesian passed away on November 24 at the age of 87, according to a report by Armenian Culture Ministry.

Varderesian was born in Bucharest, Romania, in 1928. In 1946 she repatriated to Armenia, where she studied at the studio of Leninakan Dramatical Theater (now Gyumri). She later worked in the same theater. From 1958 onwards, Varderesian was a leading actress at the Sundukian Drama Theatre of Yerevan.

In 1988,Varderesian won the People’s Artist of the USSR title, she received the Movses Khorenatsi medal in 1995 and the Mesrop Mashtots order in 2013. In 2002, Varderesian was declared an honorary resident of Yerevan.

Varderesian’s filmography includes parts in more than a dozen and a half movies that made her popular also among broad audiences.

A government commission will be set up for organization of the funeral of the actress.
