FRESNO — Dr. Hayk Demoyan, Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute of Armenia will speak about the activities of the Museum-Institute at 7:30 PM on Monday, March 21, 2011, in the Peters Educational Center Auditorium, Save Mart Center, on the Fresno State campus.
The lecture is part of the Armenian Studies Program Spring Lecture Series and is co-sponsored by the Armenian Students Organization at Fresno State.
The Armenian Genocide Museum & Institute (AGMI) is located on the hills of the Tsitsernakaberd Park, part of the Armenian Genocide Victims’ Memorial Complex. This sacred site embraces and reflects the memories and values for Armenians worldwide.
AGMI’s goal is to document and accurately illustrate all materials related to the Armenian Genocide (1915-1922). The Museum functions as a source of understanding and acknowledgement of this monumental tragedy, acknowledging that it is still a taboo subject in Turkey with the intent that Turkey will come to terms with its own history.
Dr. Demoyan has held the post of director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute since 2005. He was born in the city of Leninakan (now Gyumri), Armenia. He received his Ph.D. from the Institute of Oriental Studies at the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, and is a lecturer at the History Department of Yerevan State University He is also a researcher and has written several books on such topics as the Armenian Genocide, Turkish foreign policy and Turkey’s involvement in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict of 1991-1994. Dr. Demoyan regularly delivers speeches and lectures in Armenia and abroad
