YEREVAN — Armenia and France have signed a joint declaration on strategic partnership.

“If we have achieved this much without even having an agreement or document establishing a strategic partnership, I can only imagine what successes and accomplishments await us after formally establishing one,” Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during a press conference following the signing ceremony.

French President Emmanuel Macron said, “In recent years, we have sought to modernize Armenia’s armed forces and strengthen its sovereignty. It can be said that this has become one of the key pillars of our bilateral relations.”

The Armenian prime minister noted that the strategic partnership document emphasizes the current state of relations and creates new opportunities to utilize and further strengthen existing cooperation more effectively.

“Documents signed at the highest level send a message to various sectors in both countries that favorable political conditions have been created and that all prerequisites exist for establishing partnerships. It is the role of governments to create a favorable environment so that companies operating in both the private and public sectors can begin working together,” Pashinyan stated.

In the presence of the two heads of state, several additional agreements were also signed, including a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of military technologies and defense systems research, development, and innovation; a letter of intent on cooperation in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and semiconductors; and an agreement concerning the French University Foundation in Armenia.
