YEREVAN — French President Emmanuel Macron, who arrived in Armenia on a state visit, visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex along with the delegation he headed.
He was welcomed there by Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan, Armenia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to France Arman Khachatryan, and Acting Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Hrachya Tashchyan.
The presidents of the two countries laid wreaths at the memorial commemorating the victims of the Armenian Genocide. Members of the delegation then placed flowers near the eternal flame and observed a moment of silence in memory of the genocide victims.
The guests then approached the Memorial Wall, where small urns containing soil taken from the graves of intellectuals, political figures, and public figures who raised their voices against the Armenian Genocide are displayed. Tour guide Hasmik Martirosyan introduced the guests to the individuals honored there, drawing special attention to the pro-Armenian activities of French figures Anatole France and D’Arcy du Fournet.
At the conclusion of the visit, President Macron signed the memorial’s honorary guestbook.
