YEREVAN (Arka) — The number of foreign tourists visiting Armenia in the first half of 2024 amounted to 946,162, a 6.1% decrease from the 1,007,346 visitors during the same period in 2023, the National Statistical Committee of Armenia reported on Wednesday.
Of all tourists who visited Armenia in the first half of 2024, 392,326 were women and 553,836 were men. The majority of the visitors were aged 36-63 years (488,544 people), while the least were aged 16-17 years (9,803 people).
The largest number of tourists came from Russia (395,688 people, 41.8% of the total), marking a 23.8% decrease compared to the first half of the previous year. Visitors from Georgia numbered 126,927 (13.4% of the total), showing a 10.2% increase, and tourists from Iran totaled 69,252 (7.3% of the total), an 18.3% increase.
Additionally, tourists from India (24,949), the USA (17,042), the Philippines (13,183), Ukraine (12,663), China (11,473), Germany (11,082), France (11,032), Belarus (7,796), South Korea (7,336), Italy (6,755), Turkey (5,539), the UK (4,991), the Netherlands (4,948), Kazakhstan (4,703), Poland (4,231), Bulgaria (3,549), the UAE (3,341), Belgium (3,056), Spain (2,948), Moldova (2,929), Egypt (2,710), Austria (2,558), Greece (2,212), and Czechia (2,203) also visited Armenia in significant numbers.
The least number of tourists—just one person each—came from Angola, Burundi, Eritrea, Cape Verde, Malawi, Mali, the Marshall Islands, Mozambique, Niger, Paraguay, Sierra Leone, and Suriname. Two tourists each came from Belize, Burkina Faso, the Gambia, Comoros, Mauritius, Mauritania, Micronesia, Nicaragua, Rwanda, and Saint Lucia. Three tourists each visited from Afghanistan, Libya, and Senegal.
The report also noted that 165 tourists arrived from unknown countries, a 16.2% increase from the first half of last year.
Meanwhile, 705,105 tourists left Armenia in the first half of 2024, compared to 644,646 in the same period of 2023, marking a 9.4% increase.
