YEREVAN — On May 19, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys signed a joint declaration on strategic partnership between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Lithuania in Yerevan.

Emphasizing the importance of deepening Armenia’s partnership with the European Union, the signatories declared their intention, where appropriate and in accordance with the existing bilateral legal framework, to transform the Armenian-Lithuanian Intergovernmental Commission into an Armenian-Lithuanian Commission on EU Integration.

The signatories will promote regular bilateral consultations between the sectoral ministries of Armenia and Lithuania, focusing on support for reforms aimed at aligning Armenian legislation with EU law, as well as sharing Lithuania’s experience in EU integration.

They also plan to hold regular sectoral consultations on disinformation, public diplomacy, and related fields, with the aim of exchanging best practices and addressing existing challenges.

The declaration also highlights cooperation in high-tech sectors, particularly semiconductors, artificial intelligence, robotics, and cloud computing. The two sides will encourage joint ventures, research, and other initiatives, building on Lithuania’s role as a regional leader in financial technologies, AI research, and digital governance, as well as Armenia’s rapidly expanding innovation ecosystem, strong engineering base, and developing high-tech industry.

The parties also expressed their intention to promote closer cooperation aimed at strengthening regional and international trade and transport connectivity. This includes supporting each other’s projects, such as the inclusion of Armenia’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative within the framework of the European Union’s “Global Gateway” strategy, as well as Armenia’s participation in regional economic and infrastructure initiatives.

They further expressed their intention to encourage cooperation in the energy sector, with a focus on green hydrogen and renewable energy projects.

Lithuania will also continue supporting Armenia’s reforms in the context of implementing the Armenia-EU visa liberalization action plan, particularly in the areas of border management, security, and migration policy.
