YEREVAN — Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan said the opposition is in a “desperate situation,” arguing that the country’s three main opposition forces are struggling even to pass the minimum electoral threshold.
Speaking during the election campaign of the ruling Civil Contract Party, Simonyan claimed businessman Gagik Tsarukyan is participating in the elections merely in an attempt to secure 4% of the vote through his traditional support base.
He also asserted that the Armenia Alliance would fail to cross the threshold, adding that former President Robert Kocharyan is prepared to say or do anything politically to remain relevant.
Simonyan further criticized the “Strong Armenia” movement, claiming its leaders lack both political competence and basic knowledge of the Armenian language and governance.
