YEREVAN — On May 22, 2026, the arbitral tribunal of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes issued an award fully rejecting all claims brought against the Republic of Armenia by the Lebanese company Sanitek and its owners, Armenia’s Representative on International Legal Matters reported.

Sanitek had provided waste collection and street-cleaning services in Yerevan. The Yerevan Municipality terminated its contracts with the company due to improper fulfillment of contractual obligations, which had led to a waste management crisis in the city.

The claimants initiated arbitration proceedings on March 11, 2021, alleging that Armenia had violated the agreement between the governments of Armenia and Lebanon on the promotion and mutual protection of investments. They sought approximately $36 million in compensation.

The arbitral tribunal unanimously ruled in favor of the Republic of Armenia, rejecting all of the claimants’ demands in full.

The tribunal found that Sanitek had failed to fulfill its contractual obligations for waste collection and street-cleaning services, despite having received payment for those services.
