YEREVAN — The year 2026 marks the 110th anniversary of the mass, premeditated annihilation of the Armenian population forcibly deported to the deserts of Syria and Mesopotamia during the years of the Armenian Genocide.

In the desert regions of the Euphrates Valley, Deir ez-Zor, Ras al-Ayn, and surrounding areas, the genocidal process was marked by extreme cruelty and deprivation. The primary victims were the elderly, women, and children.

The objective of the conference is to highlight the “final destination” regions of deportation and massacres as an under-researched phase in the implementation of the Armenian Genocide and to provide a comprehensive scholarly examination of this subject.

Research based on a strong documentary foundation and a clear methodology is welcome. Priority will be given to the following thematic areas:

  • Legal and legislative frameworks
  • Political decisions and execution orders
  • The role of state institutions and bureaucracy
  • Mapping deportation routes
  • The environmental factor in the process of annihilation
  • Rivers and mountain gorges as sites of mass killings
  • Methodology and modes of annihilation
  • Starvation, epidemics, and exhaustion as intentional methods of annihilation

Conference Dates: November 27–28, 2026
Venue: Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, Yerevan, Republic of Armenia
Organizer: Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Foundation
Working Languages: Armenian and English

For participation, please submit the title of your presentation, an abstract (250–300 words), and a brief biography to [email protected] by June 30, 2026.
