YEREVAN — The European Union will provide an additional €140 million in support to Armenia, aimed at promoting reforms and deepening bilateral cooperation. This was announced by EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos during joint statements with Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan.
Kos emphasized that Armenia is a reliable partner for the EU in the South Caucasus and highlighted the region’s growing strategic importance amid global geopolitical tensions. She noted that Armenia will host the European Political Community summit in May this year, followed by the first-ever EU-Armenia summit.
According to the Commissioner, cargo transportation volumes through the South Caucasus have quadrupled since 2022. Infrastructure investments are expected to further boost these figures by reducing transit time and costs.
The new financial assistance will also support reforms necessary for progress in the visa liberalization process. Kos added that the EU is allocating over €70 million toward education, social services, housing, and integration programs for displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh.
She also stated that the EU is ready to support Armenia in strengthening democratic processes and combating hybrid threats and disinformation to ensure free and fair elections.
