YEREVAN — The officers of Armenia Border Protection Department of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation have detained a person who illegally crossed the Armenian-Turkish border, press service of the said department informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to the respective report, the border guards of the border detachment in Artashat town—in Ararat Province—had received information, over the weekend from the local residents working along the banks of the Araks River, that an unidentified person was walking toward Armenia from the border with Turkey.

He was detained in Araksavan town in Ararat Province, and handed over to the Russian border guards.

During the preliminary questioning, the detainee said he is a Pakistani citizen born in 1998, and that he wanted to reach Europe via Armenia.

On the same day, the border trespasser was handed over to the officers of the National Security Service of Armenia, who are checking out his identity and looking into the circumstances behind this offense.
