YEREVAN — With the support of the European Union, two special remote-controlled demining machines have been imported to Armenia. They will be used for humanitarian demining operations in dangerous areas of the country.

The Croatian-made equipment is designed to clear all types of mines and is capable of withstanding powerful explosions.

According to official estimates, around 43 million square meters of “contaminated territory,” or dangerous areas, exist in five Armenian provinces: Tavush, Syunik, Vayots Dzor, Ararat and Gegharkunik. These areas mainly include agricultural lands, pastures and infrastructure sites. According to the government, the use of the new equipment will significantly reduce risks and contribute to the socio-economic development of these areas.

The assistance is being provided within the framework of the bilateral partnership agenda document signed between Armenia and the European Union in December 2025, which provides for the allocation of 15 million euros to support peacekeeping efforts and a more resilient Armenia. In addition to the demining machines, Armenia will soon receive two ambulances equipped with the necessary medical supplies.

The remote-controlled machines are expected to become operational in 2027. They will also be used in the delimitation process of the state border between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
