YEREVAN — Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that alongside progress on the TRIPP project, Armenia expects the opening of the Armenia-Turkey border, followed by the restoration of railway links between Armenia and Azerbaijan and between Armenia and Turkey.
Pashinyan made the remarks while discussing the Armenian-American TRIPP project at the first Armenia-United Kingdom Business Forum held in Yerevan. The planned route through southern Armenia is intended to provide an unobstructed connection between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan.
“Armenia and our region are undergoing a transformation associated with the peace established between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the developments resulting from it. We are now working on a daily basis to launch the implementation of the TRIPP project on the ground, which will unequivocally become a cornerstone in transforming the economic environment not only of the Republic of Armenia but of the entire region,” Pashinyan said.
He added that the effects are already becoming visible.
“In fact, it already is, because even today we are seeing a certain increase in investment interest surrounding Armenia,” the prime minister said.
According to Armenian officials, construction related to TRIPP in Syunik will most likely begin early next year.
Pashinyan did not specify when the Armenia-Turkey border, which has been closed for more than three decades, is expected to reopen or when railway connections with Turkey and Azerbaijan could be restored.
