YEREVAN — Armenia cannot be expelled from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) without its consent, even if all other member states favor such a move, according to Hasmik Hakobyan, a member of parliament representing the ruling Civil Contract faction.
Speaking to journalists at the National Assembly, Hakobyan addressed reports concerning the possible suspension of the EAEU treaty’s application to Armenia, stating that she sees no reason for concern.
“There is currently no such concern. The Republic of Armenia cannot be removed from the EAEU, even if all the other member states wish to do so,” Hakobyan said.
She emphasized that Armenia has expressed no intention of withdrawing from the organization.
“Armenia is not leaving the EAEU,” the lawmaker stressed.
Her remarks followed the publication of a joint report by the governments of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan through the Russian government’s press service.
The report, titled “On the Possible Consequences of Suspending the Application of the May 29, 2014 Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union to the Republic of Armenia,” examines the potential economic implications of suspending Armenia’s participation in the organization.
The document outlines how such a suspension could affect various sectors of Armenia’s economy.
