ALMATY — Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan met with Russian Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut in Almaty on August 13 to discuss issues related to agricultural cooperation and restrictions affecting Armenian exports.
The two ministers discussed the further development of cooperation in the agro-industrial sector.
Particular attention was given to restrictions affecting Armenian businesses exporting goods to Russia, as well as the transit of Armenian products through Russian territory to other countries. The sides also discussed additional inspection and control measures applied to Armenian products.
An agreement was reached to intensify cooperation between Armenia’s Food Safety Inspection Body and Russia’s Rosselkhoznadzor agricultural watchdog.
Papoyan emphasized that constructive dialogue and the search for mutually acceptable solutions to existing problems are important for the further development of economic cooperation between the two countries.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
Russia has recently imposed a series of restrictions on Armenian goods entering its market and transiting through its territory to other Eurasian Economic Union member states. The restrictions followed the holding of European Political Community and European Union summits in Yerevan.
