ASHGABAT — During his working visit to Turkmenistan, President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan met with President of the Republic of Iraq Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid.
Throughout the meeting, the two leaders discussed a wide range of issues related to the Armenia–Iraq bilateral agenda. They emphasized the importance of sustained efforts aimed at the dynamic development of Armenian–Iraqi relations, the expansion of political dialogue based on mutual trust, and the deepening of practical cooperation.
The presidents also exchanged views on regional security, peacebuilding initiatives, and measures to strengthen stability. President Khachaturyan presented the vision behind Armenia’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative, highlighting its significant potential as a platform for regional connectivity, communication, and inclusive economic development.
In this context, both sides noted that regional stability and interconnectedness play a decisive role in expanding transportation and economic opportunities. The importance of implementing the TRIPP project and ensuring the full functioning of all communication routes was underscored.
Special attention was also given to the potential for cooperation between Armenia and Iraq in the energy sector, with both leaders noting that effective implementation of joint projects could yield substantial mutual benefits.
The parties stressed the importance of expanding bilateral economic cooperation, emphasizing the need to deepen collaboration in trade, investments, and other areas of mutual interest, as well as to consistently promote initiatives aimed at strengthening business ties.
The discussion also touched upon organizational and substantive issues related to the COP-17 Conference of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, which will be hosted by Armenia in 2026. Both sides highlighted the significance of holding high-level international events of this nature, as they serve as important platforms for addressing global environmental challenges and enhancing international cooperation.
The presidents expressed satisfaction with the growing frequency of high-level reciprocal visits and the strong level of political dialogue in recent years, emphasizing the importance of continuing this positive dynamic.
