YEREVAN — An Azerbaijani military subdivision attempted to violate Armenia’s western border from Nakhichevan on Thursday night but had to retreat after a skirmish with Armenian armed forces.

The Defense Ministry said in a statement that Armenian forces spotted the attempt early on and prevented it. “As a result of a skirmish the enemy retreated”.

“The Armenian Defense Ministry warns that in conditions of the absence of tensions in the Nakhichevan direction of the Armenian-Azerbaijani state frontier the opponent will be severely punished for its attempts to escalate the situation,” the Ministry emphasized.
