Armenia’s Aronian defeats Azeri opponent in the Candidates Tournament
LONDON — Armenian and Norwegian grandmasters, Levon Aronian and Magnus Carlsen, continue to share the lead after six rounds of play at the World Chess Candidates Tournament being held in London, UK. Both have 4.5 points.
On Thursday, Aronian defeated Teimour Radjabov of Azerbaaijan, while Carlsen’s defeated Peter Svidler of Russia.
On Wednesday, Aronian tied with former world champion Vladimir Kramnik from Russia, while Carlsen also ended his game in a draw with another Russian player, Alexander Grischuk.
The London Candidates Tournament will determine the challenger who will face, later this year, the current title holder World Champion Viswanathan Anand, who has reigned as World Champion since 2007.
