BRUSSELS — The European Union congratulated the citizens of Armenia for exercising their sovereign democratic right to vote in the parliamentary elections and praised the high level of civic participation.
“The vote demonstrates Armenia’s unwavering commitment to democracy, peace, regional cooperation, and closer ties with Europe.
According to the preliminary findings of the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission, despite a highly polarized campaign, the elections were administered inclusively, offered clear political alternatives, and were well organized under a strong legal framework.
The campaign and voting took place amid unprecedented interference, pressure, and ongoing hybrid attacks by Russia, including through economic coercion aimed at disrupting the democratic process and fueling polarization. Nevertheless, the elections reflected Armenia’s democratic resilience and continued progress on its reform path. They also highlighted the Armenian people’s commitment to European values, peaceful political participation, and their aspiration for a stable, secure, and prosperous future.
The EU takes note of the preliminary results announced by Armenia’s electoral authorities, which indicate a clear lead for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his Civil Contract Party. We call on all political actors to respect the results of the vote, democratic procedures, and to use legal mechanisms to address any electoral complaints.
The EU stands firmly with Armenia and its people and remains committed to supporting Armenia on its democratic path and deepening our partnership. We look forward to continuing close cooperation with Armenia’s future government and parliament to advance their comprehensive reform agenda, promote regional peace, economic growth, and connectivity, and strengthen Armenia’s sovereignty, resilience, democracy, and prosperity,” the statement said.
