YEREVAN — A four-language collection of essays dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was presented on May 19 at the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute. The book includes works by finalists of an essay competition organized jointly by the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, Uruguay’s National Public Education Administration, and the AGBU Uruguay chapter.
The event was attended by Uruguay’s Ambassador to Armenia, Silvana Lesca Barolin, AGBU Uruguay Education Department Director Javier Poladian, and representatives of the education and cultural sectors.
In his welcoming remarks, Acting Director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Hrachya Tashchyan emphasized the importance of young people showing interest in the history of their people and ancestors.
He said it was inspiring to see young people seeking to discover the past and preserve the memory of the Armenian Genocide. Tashchyan also highlighted the participation of young Uruguayans, noting that Uruguay’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide in 1965 testified to the country’s and its people’s commitment to humanistic values, human rights, and historical justice.
“At a time when consumer values often dominate the world, initiatives like this emphasize the role and importance of spiritual values in our lives,” Tashchyan said.
The essay competition was first held last year in Uruguay and this year was also held in Armenia. High school students from Armenia and Uruguay participated by submitting written essays, videos, and final presentations. The works of all finalists were included in the published four-language collection.
