BRUSSELS — Armenia has made significant progress in the visa liberalization process with the European Union, according to discussions held between Armenian Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan and Johannes Luchner, Deputy Director-General for Migration and Home Affairs at the European Commission.

Sargsyan, Armenia’s chief negotiator on Armenia-EU visa liberalization, received Luchner to discuss the work carried out within the framework of the process.

The sides emphasized that Armenia has been assessed as being at an advanced stage in the areas of document security, border management, migration, and asylum.

They also referred to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s observation that progress in the EU-Armenia visa liberalization process is important for both Armenia and the European Union, and that consistent joint work can help achieve the expected result.

The parties also discussed work to be carried out in specific areas and stressed the importance of fully implementing the established benchmarks and ensuring the steady advancement of the process.

Both sides reaffirmed their readiness to strengthen and expand cooperation.
