Background: The Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development
The Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development is an international award established by the Arab Gulf Programme for Development (AGFUND), a Saudi-based regional development organization founded in 1980 through the initiative of the late Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
AGFUND works to promote sustainable human development, poverty reduction, financial inclusion, education, healthcare, and the empowerment of disadvantaged communities, particularly women and children.
The prize was established to recognize and encourage innovative development projects that address pressing social, economic, and environmental challenges. It also seeks to promote successful development models that can be replicated in other communities and countries.
Named in honor of AGFUND’s founder, Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the award reflects his longstanding commitment to international cooperation, social progress, and improving living standards in developing countries.
The prize recognizes projects implemented by international organizations, national institutions, nongovernmental organizations, and community-based initiatives. Its four award categories collectively carry $1 million in prize money.
The 27th ceremony in Yerevan highlighted the growing importance of sustainable energy, climate resilience, food security, and innovative technologies in advancing human development worldwide.
