BRUSSELS — The European Commission has released details regarding the first European Union–Armenia summit, scheduled to take place in Yerevan on May 4–5.
According to the official statement, the summit represents a significant milestone in EU–Armenia relations and reaffirms the European Union’s strong commitment to Armenia’s sovereignty, resilience, and reform agenda.
The summit will be attended by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and European Council President António Costa. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas will also participate.
Leaders are expected to review recent progress in bilateral relations and strengthen cooperation, particularly in the areas of economy, connectivity, and security. Discussions will also address efforts to enhance stability in the South Caucasus, as well as broader regional and global developments, including those in Ukraine and the Middle East.
One of the key outcomes of the summit will be the launch of a new EU–Armenia partnership on connectivity. This initiative will focus on cooperation in transport, energy, digital infrastructure, and people-to-people contacts, supported by high-level dialogues.
The partnership will be complemented by initiatives aimed at mobilizing EU private investment in Armenia.
“Both sides will take concrete steps to deepen cooperation in security and defense, including through the establishment of a new EU partnership mission in Armenia,” the statement noted.
Additionally, a working agreement is expected to be signed between Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (FRONTEX).
The summit is expected to conclude with a joint press conference by participating leaders, underscoring the EU’s commitment to promoting peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus.
