YEREVAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia has issued a statement announcing that the Peace Agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan is ready for signing.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia has conveyed through diplomatic channels to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan that Armenia accepts Azerbaijan’s proposals regarding the two previously unresolved articles of the ‘Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.’ Armenia has also proposed issuing a joint statement confirming that the text of the Peace Agreement has been finalized and that negotiations on its content have concluded.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia reaffirms that the draft ‘Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan’ has been fully coordinated and that negotiations on the agreement have been completed.

Thus, the Peace Agreement is now ready for signing. Armenia is prepared to begin consultations with Azerbaijan regarding the timeframe and location for the signing of the agreement.”

Unlike Yerevan, Baku has not expressed readiness to sign the peace agreement in its official statement released today. On the contrary, it has once again emphasized that Azerbaijan’s fundamental position is that the primary condition for signing the negotiated text of the peace agreement is for Armenia to amend its Constitution to eliminate any claims against Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“At the same time, we stress the necessity of dissolving the outdated and non-functioning Minsk Group and its affiliated structures,” Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

At the end of the statement, Baku claims that it is prepared to continue dialogue on this and other issues in pursuit of the settlement process between the two countries.
