BAKU — “The destructive weapons supplied to Armenia are directed against us. It is possible that today they may be needed elsewhere. But these weapons are being sent to Armenia,” stated Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during his speech at the opening ceremony of the 12th Global Baku Forum. Once again, he addressed the issue of defensive weaponry supplied to Armenia, while avoiding any mention of the weapons Azerbaijan receives.

Aliyev also commented on the European monitoring mission, reiterating his belief that it is essentially an “EU intelligence mission.” According to him, Azerbaijan has raised these concerns with Armenian representatives and the new leadership seated in Brussels. “Now they have replaced their [the Armenians’] ‘big brother.’ Now that ‘big brother’ has become Brussels,” he said.

Aliyev went on to criticize “corrupt” American politicians who, according to him, have “supported the Armenian diaspora for decades.” In this context, he specifically mentioned Robert Menendez, stating that serious problems await him. “People like him take money from [the Armenian diaspora] and put it in their pockets. For example, this is what Mr. Adam Schiff, Mr. Frank Pallone, Mrs. Nancy Pelosi, and many others are engaged in. They have been receiving money from Armenian diaspora organizations in the U.S. for decades to attack and discredit Azerbaijan,” Aliyev claimed.
