LONDON — Nagorno-Karabakh Republic president Bako Sahakian visited the parliament of Great Britain on July 8 and delivered a speech.

A statement by Sahakian’s office said that in his speech Bako Sahakian spoke about Karabakh’s socioeconomic development, the Karabakh conflict peace process and took questions from the audience.

Bako Sahakian said that Nagorno-Karabakh Republic views the United Kingdom as an influential state, one of the cradles of democracy and the European civilization.

He said Karabakh is interested in developing relations with Great Britain, especially in deepening parliamentary ties, cementing ties in scientific, educational and humanitarian areas.

According to him, this optimism is first and foremost based on the fact that in the British Parliament there are devoted friends of Karabakh.

One of them, Baroness Caroline Cox, is a longtime member of the British House of Lords who frequently visited Karabakh during and after the 1991-1994 Armenian-Azerbaijani war. Cox has been a staunch backer of international recognition of Karabakh’s independence.
