YEREVAN — The Central Bank of Armenia will put into circulation a silver commemorative coin dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia on September 14, 2026, the bank announced.
The period of Armenia’s Third Republic began on September 21, 1991. Following independence, the country established its state symbols—the flag, coat of arms and national anthem—as well as state honors, including titles, orders and medals.
On November 22, 1993, Armenia introduced its national currency, the dram.
The establishment of an independent democratic state contributed to the preservation and strengthening of national identity and traditions. The Armenian Apostolic Church also assumed a greater role in public life. Among the most significant achievements of the independence era was the establishment of the national army as a defender of Armenian statehood.
Today, Armenia is a member of the United Nations, Commonwealth of Independent States, Council of Europe, World Trade Organization, Eurasian Economic Union and other international organizations.
The obverse of the commemorative coin features the coat of arms of the Republic of Armenia and an Armenian ornamental design.
The reverse depicts the National Assembly building, designed by architect M. Grigoryan in 1950, along with a stylized Armenian tricolor and the inscription “35th Anniversary of the Republic of Armenia.” It also features a line from Armenia’s national anthem, Mer Hayrenik (“Our Fatherland”): “…May Armenia always be glorious.” The anthem’s lyrics were written by Mikael Nalbandian, with music by Barsegh Kanachyan.
The coin was designed by Eduard Kurghinyan and minted at the Lithuanian Mint.
