YEREVAN — Armenian Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan has awarded French-Armenian actor, playwright and theater director Simon Abkarian the ministry’s Gold Medal.

Abkarian received the honor in recognition of his significant contributions to international theater and cinema, his distinguished representation of Armenian culture on global platforms, and his many years of productive work promoting Armenian-French cultural relations.

He was also presented with the Golden Apricot Master Award.

Expressing his gratitude for the recognition, Abkarian said, “I am happy to be in Armenia and to be a part of this wonderful festival.”

Abkarian is among the honorary guests of the 23rd Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival.

As part of the festival, audiences will have the opportunity on July 16 and 17 to watch director Antonin Baudry’s two-part historical and biographical drama, The Battle of de Gaulle, in which Abkarian portrays General Charles de Gaulle.
