LONDON — Sam Chatto, a grandson of Princess Margaret, has proposed to his girlfriend, British-Armenian artist Eleanor Ekserdjian. Chatto announced the happy news on his Instagram page.

The couple have been together since 2021. Both are graduates of the University of Edinburgh.

In 2022, the couple visited Armenia. Chatto, a ceramic artist, and Ekserdjian traveled throughout the country for approximately one month as part of their joint project, Imagined Landscapes. During the trip, they explored Armenia’s historical and cultural heritage and its distinctive architectural monuments.

They concluded their month-long project with an exhibition of their work.

Eleanor Ekserdjian was born into a distinguished family of artists and scholars. She is the daughter of prominent art historian Professor David Ekserdjian, an emeritus professor of art and film history at the University of Leicester.

Her grandfather was Colonel Noubar Martin Ekserdjian, whose family belonged to the influential and wealthy Armenian community of the Ottoman Empire. Colonel Ekserdjian served as an executive director of the Iraq Petroleum Company, which was founded by Calouste Gulbenkian.

Eleanor’s mother is Susan Moore, an art critic for the Financial Times.
