BRUSSELS — EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos will visit Armenia on July 5 to advance concrete steps aimed at deepening the European Union’s support for the country.

Kos announced the visit in a post on X following a meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan. She said Russia continues to increase pressure on Armenia in an attempt to push the country away from the democratic choice made by the Armenian people in the recent elections.

Kos noted that EU member states would discuss ways to continue supporting Armenia during a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council on June 15, demonstrating the bloc’s solidarity with Yerevan.

“We will provide financial support and make it easier for Armenia to trade with its neighbors and with Europe. I will travel to Yerevan on July 5 to advance concrete steps,” Kos wrote.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas also said that support for Armenia would be discussed during the EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Luxembourg.

Speaking to reporters before the start of the meeting, Kallas said the ministers would begin with a working breakfast on Armenia, joined by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.

“They have had new elections, and we have seen truly growing pressure from Russia to change their path. That is why we need to support them so they can be resilient. This is also why we will discuss with the minister what more we can do to help them on their path,” Kallas said.

Earlier, Armenia’s Foreign Ministry announced that Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan would take part in a discussion held in the format of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting.
