YEREVAN — Armenia’s Investigative Committee has launched criminal proceedings over a video shared by Strong Armenia Party member Alik Aleksanyan, in which claims were made about the alleged handover of a military position near Jermuk.

The Defense Ministry officially denied the claims the same day.

According to investigators, proceedings were initiated on suspicion of false reporting and organizing false reporting. The identity of the person speaking in the video, whose face was partially covered, has been established. The individual had served combat duty at the military position in question.

During questioning, he denied that any position had been handed over. He also stated that he had been intoxicated when he attended a gathering organized by Narek Karapetyan, where he met Aleksanyan. According to his testimony, Aleksanyan, aware of his social problems, immediately arranged an interview with a journalist. The individual said he was intoxicated and provided information that did not correspond to reality.
