YEREVAN — According to media reports, Samvel Karapetyan’s group has introduced retired Israeli general Zvika Haimovich as a member of the “Strong Armenia” party’s security team. Reports indicate that Haimovich served in Israel during a period when Azerbaijan actively purchased air defense systems and combat drones from Israel.
National Assembly Vice Speaker Ruben Rubinyan addressed the issue in a video posted on social media.
“A Russian oligarch has brought in an Israeli general, included him in his group, and is effectively trying to introduce a foreign military figure into Armenia’s political field. I assume he may even be their candidate for defense minister, and it apparently does not matter to them that he is neither a citizen of Armenia nor Armenian,” Rubinyan stated.
He further criticized the move, suggesting that the group treats Armenia like a privately managed entity rather than a sovereign state.
“This is disgraceful, but also unsurprising, because the Israeli general has as much connection to Armenia as the Russian oligarch, who is not even a citizen but is being presented as a candidate for prime minister,” he added.
