STRASBOURG – The Republic of Armenia and the United States are expected to sign an agreement in the near future and begin practical steps to implement the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) program. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this during his speech at the European Parliament.
The Prime Minister noted that the framework for implementing the program had already been adopted on January 13.
Speaking from the European Parliament podium, Pashinyan elaborated on regional developments over the past two years, highlighting the peace declaration initialed with Azerbaijan in Washington on August 8, 2025. According to Pashinyan, the TRIPP project, which stems from Armenia’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative, is currently in what he described as the “crystallization phase.”
Pashinyan also cited provisions of the Washington declaration that outline the principles for unblocking regional communications.
“We reaffirmed the importance of opening communications between the two countries for domestic, bilateral, and international transportation, based on respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and jurisdiction of states, with the goal of promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and its surroundings. These efforts will include unobstructed communication between the main part of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic through the territory of the Republic of Armenia, with reciprocal benefits for Armenia in terms of international and domestic transportation,” Pashinyan said.
The Prime Minister officially stated that Armenia “has neither the intention nor the reason to delay” the implementation of the TRIPP project. He emphasized that the initiative fully aligns with Armenia’s interests and does not undermine the country’s sovereignty.
Addressing the current situation, Pashinyan noted that 2025 became the first year since Armenia’s independence without recorded casualties or injuries along the border. He also spoke about the first results of economic cooperation.
“I hope that Azerbaijan will soon become a destination for Armenian exports. Armenia has already begun importing petroleum products from Azerbaijan, which has contributed to lower fuel prices in our market and has broken monopolies that had dominated the fuel sector for decades,” he said.
The Prime Minister also reaffirmed Armenia’s readiness to ensure connectivity between Azerbaijan’s western regions and the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic using existing infrastructure—along the Kornidzor–Goris–Yeghegnadzor–Yeraskh route—until construction work under the TRIPP project begins.
At the conclusion of his speech, Prime Minister Pashinyan received a standing ovation from most members of the European Parliament.
