WASHINGTON, DC — The “Trump Route” project in no way violates Armenia’s sovereignty, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated during a meeting with Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Washington on January 13.
“The ‘Trump Route’ project does not undermine Armenia’s sovereignty in any way. It opens Armenia to trade and enables the country to prosper economically,” Rubio said. “There is no issue of sovereignty here—on the contrary, it reflects respect for that sovereignty.”
Rubio noted that bilateral relations continue to strengthen both within the framework of the joint statement on the Armenia–U.S. implementation framework for the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) project, as well as through arrangements outside the TRIPP framework.
He described the TRIPP project as a potential model for the international community. “We truly believe that the TRIPP—Trump Route—arrangement can become a global model for how countries can open themselves to economic activity and prosperity without in any way calling into question or undermining their sovereignty or territorial integrity,” Rubio said.
According to the Secretary of State, the project will be beneficial for Armenia, the United States, and all parties involved. He emphasized that important steps are being taken today to fulfill commitments aimed at advancing the initiative.
Foreign Minister Mirzoyan and Secretary Rubio met in Washington on January 13 to announce the implementation framework for the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) project. As noted by Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the document represents “a new step toward implementing the commitments reached at the White House on August 8, 2025, in support of achieving lasting peace in the South Caucasus.”
