TBILISI — Georgia has special relations with its three neighboring countries—Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkey—and deepening those ties is essential to strengthening the country’s regional connectivity and transit role, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said.

Speaking on the Imedi LIVE television program, Kobakhidze said Georgia was carrying out major infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity.

“Under our plan, virtually all express highways will be completed by 2031, with the exception of one section,” he said. “In addition, the modernization of the railway and the expansion of its capacity are continuing actively. We are building the Anaklia port, where work is also progressing intensively. Airport infrastructure is also being developed, including at the three international airports operating in our country.”

According to the Georgian prime minister, large-scale infrastructure investments will support the further development of Georgia’s transit function.

“These are very substantial investments in infrastructure, and all of this will contribute to the further development of our country’s transit role,” Kobakhidze said.

“At the same time, we are deepening our relations with the relevant countries in our region and with our neighbors. We have exceptional relations with our three neighboring countries—Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkey—and all of this plays a key role in terms of connectivity and transit.”
