YEREVAN — Armenia has succeeded in bringing stability to the region amid a globally unstable environment, opening broad opportunities for both the region and the country, Secretary of Armenia’s Security Council Armen Grigoryan said.

Grigoryan made the remarks during a security forum titled “Armenia and Peace at the Crossroads of Risks and Opportunities.”

Responding to a question about the impact of regional and global uncertainties on Armenia and its security environment, Grigoryan said that developments related to Armenia, as well as broader global processes that have generated increased uncertainty, have compelled the country to work more actively to make the situation around Armenia at least more stable and predictable.

“I am convinced that we have succeeded in doing so. Indeed, as of August 8, peace has been established in our region. The task now is to institutionalize that peace,” Grigoryan said. “By institutionalization, we mean both unblocking communications and, as well, the very important development that took place yesterday in Washington related to TRIPP. In addition, this includes the signing and ratification of a peace treaty. Since a preliminary agreement has already been reached, there is a need to sign and ratify the peace treaty, thereby continuing the process of institutionalizing peace.”

In this context, Grigoryan also highlighted recent changes in Armenia–Azerbaijan relations over the past several months, particularly with regard to unblocking. “Restrictions on goods entering Armenia through Azerbaijan have been lifted. There is now the possibility to use Azerbaijani territory and to import goods from Azerbaijan to Armenia, which has completely transformed the region. In a globally unstable environment, we have managed to bring stability to the region and open wide opportunities for Armenia,” he emphasized.

According to Grigoryan, some of these opportunities relate directly to the economy. Pointing to economic growth figures and the number of tourist visits, he said the economy has responded very positively.

“All of this shows that significant opportunities have emerged in Armenia and the region, and that stability exists. You know that money responds most strongly to stability. There are clear signals of that stability across various sectors,” Grigoryan noted.

He stressed the importance of the opportunities created by stability and assured that Armenia will continue working consistently in this direction.
