Humanitarian Aid Trucks Depart from Armenia to Syria

YEREVAN — Trucks carrying humanitarian aid on behalf of Armenia have departed for Syria through the Margara border crossing on the Armenian-Turkish border.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the humanitarian aid sent to Syria includes food and medical supplies, which aim to alleviate the consequences of war and crisis for the friendly Syrian people.

“The humanitarian assistance will be delivered to Syria through the Margara border crossing, which connects Armenia and Turkey. The crossing was opened for this purpose as a result of a bilateral agreement with Turkey. We also extend our gratitude to the Turkish side for facilitating the smooth coordination of the aid delivery,” the statement reads.

During a recent government session, it was decided that the “Margara” border crossing between Armenia and Turkey would open for 10 days. This temporary opening aims to allow the swift and cost-effective transportation of humanitarian aid from Armenia to Syria via Turkish territory.

Discussions about providing humanitarian assistance were held during working meetings between the relevant authorities of Armenia and Syria.

After being closed for decades, the border checkpoint was last opened in 2023 to deliver humanitarian aid from Armenia to those affected by the earthquake in Turkey.
