TEHRAN — The sovereignty of any country should not be ignored, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said during a meeting in Tehran on Monday with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Shahin Mustafayev. Pezeshkian also emphasized that the involvement of non-regional countries would not serve the interests of the region’s nations.
“We believe that we can ensure security and solve our problems through cooperation. This is the principled policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s administration, which we have always emphasized,” Pezeshkian added.
He further noted that building walls at borders is unnecessary for establishing security. “Islamic countries should open their markets to one another, enabling businesspeople to collaborate more easily,” he said.
Iran has consistently stated its support for the unblocking of transport routes in the South Caucasus, provided it respects the sovereignty of the countries in the region. However, it firmly opposes any changes to international borders.
