FORDE, NORWAY — Armenia women’s weightlifting team member, Olympic bronze medalist Hripsime Khurshudyan became a European champion.

The European weightlifting Championships are coming to a close in the Norwegian city Forde. In the women’s 75+kg weight class competition Armenia was represented by 2 athletes – Hripsime Khurshudyan and Arpine Dalalyan.

Eight weightlifters from Poland, Georgia, Great Britain, Bulgaria and Hungary were competing in this weight class.

In the snatch Hripsime Khurshudyan performed all attempts lifting 107kg, 111kg and 113kg. Khurshudyan managed to conquer a small gold medal.

Another representative of Armenia Arpine Dalalyan held overhead 88kg and 93kg but failed in the third attempt of the snatch.

In the clean and jerk Khurshudyan lifted 133kg in the first attempt and then 137kg becoming a European champion with a total result of 250kg. She also captured another small gold medal.

Arpine Dalalyan lifted only 120kg and with a total result placed 6th.

“This victory is a new return, a beginning of something new. I happened to conquer 20 gold medals in a year but to become a champion twice in 20 days seems unreal heroism. I’m so happy, especially after the recent incidents happened in Armenia, that we, the athletes, could prove that Armenia will always be a winner. The lifted kilos were the usual kilos that I lift during trainings. We didn’t need to lift more kilos, the goal was to become a champion. I’ll lift more kilos at the Rio Olympics and will fight for medals there”, Khurshudyan said to ANOC press service.

The Armenian women’s weightlifting team won the overall European team title scoring 449 points and capturing 5 gold and one silver medal. Ukraine placed second with 435 points and Turkey – third with only 399 points.
