BURBANK — On Monday, November 4, 2013, Armenia Fund held a community event featuring a presentation of the Vardenis-Martakert Highway. The event was held at the Western Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, under the auspices of Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Bishop Mikael Mouradian (represented by Father Andon Nouradounghian) and Reverend Joseph Matossian.

Armenia Fund President Antranik Baghdassarian presented the project in detail and stressed its importance. Mr. Baghdassarian stated that the completion of the highway is a national priority for all Armenians because it is important for the long term development and security of Armenia and the Nagorno Karabakh Republic. The 72 mile long highway is expected to cost $30 million and upon completion it will link more than 300 villages in Armenia and Artsakh – boosting regional trade and tourism.

Archbishop Hovnan Derderian commended the Armenia Fund for tirelessly working for the betterment of the Homeland and implementing vital projects. Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian also stressed the importance of the highway and called on all community members to participate in this important nation building endeavor.

Present at the event were Armenia Fund’s Corporate Board members, representatives and heads of several Armenian organizations, as well as donors and supporters. The Thanksgiving Day Telethon will be held on November 28, 2013 from 8am-8pm PT. The entire telethon will be webcasted at www.armeniafund.org.
