YEREVAN (News.am) — The city council of Alicante, Spain, officially recognized and condemned the Armenian Genocide on Thursday.

The representatives of all the parties present delivered speeches at the discussions held in the city council, underscoring the importance of the Armenian Genocide recognition and its preventive significance, Armenian MFA press-service reports.

Specifically, the representative of COMPROMIS political party noted in his speech that it is utterly important not to forget the crime committed against the Armenians especially today, considering the massive violations of human rights and endangered lives of thousands of people in the places where the Armenian Genocide was perpetuated.

The overwhelming majority of the political forces taking part in the voting (PSOE, GUANYAR and COMPROMIS parties) voted for the adoption of the institutional statement.

The petition to recognize and condemn the Armenian Genocide was submitted by Alicante’s Armenia Association.
