In an exclusive interview with Astana Radio Azattyk, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon gave an. On the UN’s role in achieving the four resolutions, adopted since 1993, on Artsakh, UN Secretary-General gave the following answer:

“I hope that the parties will continue negotiations to discuss all matters and, as I understand, recently negotiating process gained some momentum. Again, I hope that Azerbaijan and Armenia reach an agreement on basic principles for the peaceful settlement of the issue as soon as possible.”

“At the same time, I want to encourage interested parties – Azerbaijan and Armenia – to refrain from any provocative actions along the contact line of troops and draw back snipers deployed along the conflict border. This will help not only those two countries, but also those who are promoting the peace talks.”

Ban Ki-moon arrived in Kazakhstan’s capital, along with the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan, to attend the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) summit on December 1-2. Within the framework of the summit, among others topics for discussion will be the Artsakh issue. The summit will bring together heads of 68 States and 68 international organizations.
