CRAIOVA — Ararat-Armenia FC played to a 1-1 draw against Romania’s Universitatea Craiova in the first leg of the final round of UEFA Europa League qualifying.
Defender Alexandros Malis opened the scoring in the 21st minute, giving Ararat-Armenia the lead. The hosts equalized in the 33rd minute through team captain Nicușor Bancu.
No further goals were scored during the remainder of the match.
The winner of the tie will now be decided in the return leg, scheduled for August 27 at 8:00 p.m. at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium in Yerevan.
The winner of the two-leg matchup will secure a place in the Europa League league phase.
