ZAGREB — Armenian gymnast Artur Avetisyan has won the European championship title for the first time in his career.
Avetisyan, a member of Armenia’s national artistic gymnastics team, captured the gold medal in the still rings event at the European Championships currently underway in Zagreb, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports reported.
Avetisyan scored 14.400 points to finish first and claim the European title.
Armenia’s other representative in the still rings final, Vahagn Davtyan, earned 14.000 points and finished fifth.
Earlier in the championships, Armenia had already secured two medals in the pommel horse event. Reigning European champion Hamlet Manukyan won the silver medal with a score of 15.000 points.
World silver medalist Mamikon Khachatryan, Armenia’s other competitor in the event, scored 14.900 points to take the bronze medal.
