YEREVAN — “We will formulate the objective as follows: between 2026 and 2031, $2 billion worth of illegally alienated property must be returned to the Republic of Armenia or to local communities,” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during the August 6 Cabinet meeting.

“This is a very realistic objective, especially considering the processes we have seen since the elections and the very clear demand expressed by the public. I also want to thank the public for its patience. Although the delays have frustrated us just as much as they have frustrated the public, the mechanisms have nevertheless been put into operation. From 2026 through 2031, $2 billion worth of property must be returned to the state and communities through the use of all available mechanisms,” Pashinyan said.

The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of determining what happens to recovered property afterward.

He said that earlier in the morning he had received a “strange” letter from a citizen alleging that property returned to a community was now being considered for transfer back to the same individual from whom it had originally been recovered.
