YEREVAN — Armenia remains ready to establish conventional transport links with Azerbaijan, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said on Thursday in response to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s latest demands for a land corridor through Armenia’s Syunik region.

“There are fundamental principles such as the territorial integrity of countries, their sovereignty over infrastructure, and the application of national legislation within each state’s jurisdiction. Naturally, understanding that in the 21st century, everyone is striving for certain simplifications in their interactions, we also foresee specific simplified procedures with Azerbaijan if and when communication is restored. These procedures could be implemented in a way that benefits both Armenia and Azerbaijan,” stated Armenia’s Foreign Minister.

“We have proposed constructive solutions to Azerbaijan and are awaiting a positive response from this country,” Mirzoyan said at a joint press conference with his Georgian counterpart, Maka Bochorishvili, in Yerevan on Thursday.

According to him, Armenia is confident that the proposed unblocking, under the given conditions, will bring significant economic benefits to the South Caucasus countries—Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia.

The Armenian minister added that Armenia’s approach is outlined in the “Crossroads of Peace” project, which includes simplified procedures that could be implemented, enabling both Armenia and Azerbaijan to benefit.

Mirzoyan reiterated the Armenian side’s readiness to agree to put in place “some simplified procedures” for Armenian-Azerbaijani border crossings and cargo transit.
