YEREVAN — Armenian Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan has tendered a letter of resignation, the Ombudsperson’s Office press service said in an official Facebook post today. No reasons for the resignation were clear immediately

“The Human Rights Defender thanks all partners for the joint work, and expresses the hope that the protection of human rights will remain a priority of our state and society,” Andreasyan spokesman said.

“There will be no other comments in this connection,” the posted statement said.

Andreasyan was elected Human Rights Defender by parliament on March 2, 2011. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Law of Yerevan State University and continued his studies at the University of California, Berkeley (USA), Oxford University, the Canadian Center for Human Rights and the European Journalism Centre (Netherlands).  He has a PhD in law, and is an associate professor of Yerevan State University and a member of the Armenian Bar Association..
