YEREVAN — Efforts to secure the return of Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan are carried out every day and never cease, National Assembly Speaker Ruben Rubinyan said during a press briefing.
“As you know, the issue of prisoners and other detained individuals is part of our daily work. It is through these daily efforts that more than 200 prisoners have returned to their homeland over the years, and that work never stops,” Rubinyan said.
According to the National Assembly speaker, there have previously been periods when no visible progress was made in securing the prisoners’ return, although negotiations continued.
“There have been months without any movement. There were discussions and allegations that the government was doing nothing, but then, suddenly, another group of prisoners returned one day,” he said.
“We will do everything possible to make that happen as quickly as possible. Naturally, we will continue working on this issue at the parliamentary level, just as we have done in the past,” Rubinyan added.
