Criminal Investigation Opened Into Alleged Vote-Buying Scheme Involving Blogger Mika Badalyan

YEREVAN — Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee announced that it has obtained sufficient evidence indicating that Russia-based blogger Mika Badalyan allegedly offered services and other benefits to hundreds of Armenian citizens residing in Russia in exchange for participating in Armenia’s parliamentary elections.

A criminal investigation has been launched in connection with the allegations.

“Authorities are undertaking all measures provided by law to identify citizens living abroad who allegedly received electoral bribes and to apply the legal measures prescribed by law,” the Anti-Corruption Committee said in a statement.

The agency also urged citizens who received electoral bribes or possess information about such activities to cooperate with investigators by providing relevant information and evidence.

The committee further called on citizens to refrain from participating in vote-buying schemes, attempts to influence voter choice, or any other election-related violations.
